The new installation will allow to determine the resistance of crushed stone and gravel to crushing and wear.

In 2020, a large-scale equipment upgrade is taking place in the stationary laboratories of the FAA ROSDORNIA within the framework of the national project "Safe and High-quality Roads". The new equipment will be used in the framework of quality monitoring (audit) for testing road construction materials for compliance with the requirements of existing regulatory and technical documents. We talk about new progressive installations and devices in detail. This week is the turn of installations for testing mineral materials.

The Los Angeles installation is designed to determine the crushing and wear resistance of crushed stone and gravel in accordance with the requirements of GOST 33049-2014 "Public roads. Crushed stone and gravel from rocks. Determination of crushing and wear resistance". The essence of this method is to determine the mass loss of a sample of crushed stone or gravel caused by shock loads and abrasion forces. The sample of the mineral material is located in the rotating hollow drum of the installation. Steel balls act on it, and crushed stone grains (gravel) also come into contact with other grains and the inner surface of the drum. Mass loss is defined as passing through a control sieve.

The installation is a durable steel cylinder, which is mounted on a frame with the help of bearing assemblies and placed in a soundproof cabinet. The axis of rotation of the cylinder is horizontal. The geometric dimensions of the cylinder are set by GOST 33049-2014. The cylinder is equipped with a removable lid and a gripping bar installed along the generatrix on the inside. To ensure the rotation of the drum with a given frequency, an electric motor equipped with a gearbox is used. The speed counter allows you to complete the test when the required number of revolutions is reached.
