New testing laboratory The Voronezh branch of ROSDORNIA will take control of road works in nine regions.
On August 25, 2020, the Voronezh branch of the Russian Road Research Institute (FAA "ROSDORNII") hosted a presentation of a new testing laboratory for monitoring the quality of road works. This is one of the first monitoring centers that will appear in all regional branches of the Institute as part of the implementation of the national project "Safe and High-quality Highways" (NP "BCAD"). Equipped with the most modern equipment, the laboratory complex allows carrying out the entire necessary range of tests of road-building materials using almost five hundred types of measuring equipment.
"At the moment we are present in the newest laboratory. The laboratory tests materials that are used in road repairs, in road construction – these are asphalt concrete mixtures, bitumen, and inert materials, i.e. the whole range of parameters," said the head of the Department of Road Activities who was present at the opening Voronezh region Maxim Oskin.
The laboratories of the FAA "ROSDORNII", which performs the functions of an Industry-wide Competence Center (BCC) within the framework of the implementation of NP "BCAD", are capable of testing all the main types of materials used in modern road construction. In particular, the Voronezh branch of the Institute has installed:
– Servo-hydraulic system for dynamic tensile and compression testing of a wide range of road construction materials, including various types of asphalt concrete, soil, fiber, plastics, etc.;
– Prall-test installation for testing asphalt concrete samples for abrasion. The stand simulates the impact of studded tires on the road surface;
– GALILEO gyratory compactor is an installation for assessing the quality and properties of asphalt concrete mixtures created by the method of volumetric and functional design of asphalt concrete mixtures using Superpave technology. The stand allows you to determine the stability of the road surface to the transport load for the entire period of operation of the future road;
– Roller (sector) sealer for the preparation of samples of asphalt concrete mixtures for subsequent testing. The installation simulates road roller sealing in real conditions;
– A stand for assessing the resistance of asphalt concrete to the formation of a track under the action of loaded wheels of vehicles, including when the road surface is moistened;
– Dynamic shear rheometer DSR: an installation for assessing the wheel load on the bitumen binder component of road surfaces;
– Rheometer for testing bitumen binder for resistance to cracking in the road surface at low temperatures;
– A high-pressure chamber that allows simulating the aging of bitumen binder in asphalt concrete during the operation of the roadway;
– Furnace for removing gas bubbles from artificially aged bitumen samples.
The laboratory will serve the road network of nine regions of the country. Its staff is fully staffed with qualified personnel. All employees have higher education and extensive experience in the road industry. In addition, they received training in handling the installed equipment, organized directly by the manufacturing companies.
Journalists invited to the presentation, representatives of the industry, municipal and regional the management bodies got acquainted with the equipment, the features of its operation and the rules of use. The demonstration of the stands and devices was conducted by leading specialists of ROSDORNIA, including Yuri Belyaev, Deputy Director for Organizational Activities of the BCC, Alexander Tselkovnev, Director of the Voronezh branch of the Institute, and Natalia Kostrykina, head of the laboratory.
