ITS and IT are the most popular areas of the road industry acceleration platform.
The interim results of the "admission campaign" of the accelerator of the road industry were announced at the anniversary international scientific and practical conference "Transport of Russia: problems and prospects", which started on November 10 in St. Petersburg. The organizers were the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the N.S. Solomenko Institute of Transport Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the St. Petersburg University of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.
About two dozen speakers took part in the first day of the conference, among them a representative of the FAA "ROSDORNIA". Director of Organizational Activities of the BCCAlexey Kovrov made a presentation on "Innovations in the road industry. Development of the acceleration platform".
Recall that the acceleration platform was created on the basis of the Russian Road Research Institute within the framework of the national project "Safe and high-quality Highways", which started in 2019. As Alexey Kovrov noted, the national project is not only work on repair, overhaul, construction and reconstruction of facilities, this is a wide range of measures for the development of technologies, the development of new effective ways of managing road activities, the introduction of new methods of work, professional development of personnel. In particular, a Register of new and best technologies, materials and technological solutions for reuse (RNNT) was created. The speaker stressed that the Industry-wide Competence Center of the Road Industry (BCC), created on the basis of the FAA "ROSDORNIA", approaches comprehensively the issue of re-equipment of the road industry, the introduction of new and best technologies and assistance to regions and road organizations in the transition to their use.
"In general, the work on the re-equipment of the industry can be divided into three main blocks: creating conditions for transparent economic motivation of road construction organizations to develop new and best technologies; methodological, advisory and educational support for existing road organizations on the introduction of new and best technologies (point solutions together with regional road management bodies the organization of the application in the road industry of modern economic mechanisms to stimulate the creation and re-equipment of enterprises. The last one is the launch of an industry accelerator," Alexey Kovrov said.
The Director of Organizational Activities of the BCC explained that accelerators have already been successfully launched in various industries, have proven themselves as an effective mechanism of development not only from an economic point of view, but also the introduction of new tools and technologies. But there have been no such "incubators" in the road industry so far. The accelerator of the road industry, launched on the basis of the FAA ROSDORNIA, is a tool aimed at accelerating the introduction of innovations in the industry.
The work of the accelerator of the road industry is aimed at solving a number of tasks:
– Search for projects and their acceleration (expertise and piloting);
– Increasing the transparency of the industry for potential investors;
– Increasing the educational, scientific and technical potential of the industry;
– Opening of new technological enterprises and assistance in re-equipment of existing enterprises;
– Expanding the involvement of the expert community in the development of the industry;
– Expansion of the introduction of new and best technologies, including the use of RNNT.
The solution of these most important tasks is now in the hands of the best industry experts, who at this stage are preparing to evaluate the applications already sent to the accelerator, created on the basis of the FAA ROSDORNIA. On October 31, 2020, the process of collecting them was completed. Now the commission will have to determine the technological and commercial potential of these projects, their significance for the comprehensive re-equipment of the industry not only within the framework of the BCAD NP, but also other federal and regional projects.
"The initial analysis showed that 50% of applications are operating businesses that cannot overcome barriers to entry into the industry! That is, even for mature, operating enterprises, it is quite problematic to enter the road industry. The first accelerator showed it. The next step for us is to develop a set of measures to increase the transparency of the road industry and create effective mechanisms for entering the industry," Alexey Kovrov shared.

In total, the accelerator of the road industry accepted 66 applications. The topics of the projects are extensive and diverse. More than half of them relate to the sphere of intelligent transport systems, IT and digitalization. Technological projects are in second place, and those related to road construction equipment, design, resource provision and unmanned transport occupy the third place. As a scientific institute, ROSDORNII FAU plans to develop these areas in the next few years in order to reduce the gap in the field of road construction technology, but at the same time - to declare and maintain positions on IT at the international level.
The evaluation of projects will be carried out by experts until November 15, according to its results, 30 teams will be invited for face-to-face selection, and the 15 best will undergo a 2-week consulting and practical course. Upon its completion, participants will get a full understanding of the specifics of working in the industry. In addition, they will have the opportunity to speak at the demo day with a presentation of their technology, where the jury will choose the winners. Their projects will be included in the Register of New and Best Technologies.
Director of Organizational He stressed that the participants of the first industry accelerator will get an understanding of the way a project should go from an idea to implementation at a road facility, how to properly prepare their project within the framework of procurement activities, how to competently protect the technology in front of the customer, with whom and how to interact for testing, implementation and replication of technology.
