Russian experts assessed the capabilities of the DuraBASt test site

As part of a working visit to the Federal Road Research Institute of Germany (BASt) on February 27-28, 2020 in the city of Bergisch-Gladbach, the participants of the delegation of the FAA "ROSDORNIA" not only got acquainted with the laboratory infrastructure of the institute, but also visited the DuraBASt test and demonstration site.

The DuraBASt polygon is a simulated section of a highway built along the main roadway and divided into 3 sectors.

BASt specialists demonstrated some areas and capabilities of the test site: sectors for the verification of mobile road diagnostic laboratories (longitudinal and transverse evenness, defect fixation systems, slip level); experimental sections with various designs of road clothes for their accelerated testing; developments in the field of creating innovative structures with increased service life.

Recall that as a result of the meeting organized by the Department for International Relations of the FAA "ROSDORNII", a bilateral Memorandum on cooperation in the field of road science was signed. Goals, directions and possible forms of further interaction the parties discussed during the scientific and practical seminar and discussion.

Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen (BASt) is a scientific and technical research institute of the Federal Government of Germany that carries out research and development work in the transport sector, provides the Federal Ministry for Transport and Electronic Infrastructure with scientifically based assistance for decision–making in matters of a special and transport-political nature. For more than 40 years, BASt has been the leading organization for the study of road accidents in Germany.

From the Russian side, the meeting was attended by: Alexey Varyatchenko, Director General of the FAA "ROSDORNII", Sergey Popov, First Deputy Director General, Ulugbek Kasymov, Deputy Director General, Andrey Chvanov, Director of Science, Ekaterina Bryazgina, Director of ITS Development, Ekaterina Popova, Director of Expert and Analytical Activities, Mikhail Ermakov, Head of the Department of Diagnostics of Highways, Egor Bondarev, Head of the Department of International Cooperation.

The agreements reached during the February visit will be to contribute to the further development of long-term relations between scientific institutes of the two countries and will allow planning joint scientific research, including within the framework of the national project "Safe and high-quality highways".
