In Petrozavodsk, traffic management processes will be automated by 2024.
In Russia, the number of cities participating in the implementation of the program for the introduction of intelligent transport systems (ITS) is growing. The work is carried out within the framework of the national project "Safe high-quality roads". The key goal of ITS is to automate traffic management processes and, as a result, improve road safety.
"Last year we implemented intelligent transport systems in 24 regions, and in 2022 the number of regions participating in this program increased to 42. In fact, we are creating unique systems for each city to ensure and control road safety. ITS automatically adjusts to the city and its residents, drivers and pedestrians, focuses on the rhythm of the city depending on weather conditions and time of day. Leveling the human factor and the risk of mistakes, ITS is at the same time as human-oriented as possible, and its main task is to make life in cities as comfortable and safe as possible," said Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin.
In Petrozavodsk as part of the transport reform of the FAA "ROSDORNII" it has begun to develop a comprehensive scheme for the organization of public transport services. The results of this research work will form the basis of an updated Program for the integrated development of the city's transport infrastructure. It will be complemented by the introduction of an intelligent transport system, which will be completed in 2024: automation of traffic management processes will allow regulating increasing traffic and increasing the capacity of the Karelian capital's road network.
The introduction of ITS is carried out with the support of the federal budget and involves the creation of traffic control centers, with which traffic flow detectors are integrated, the installation of video surveillance cameras, "smart" traffic lights, complexes of photo-video recording of traffic violations, "smart" stops, weather stations.
