Specialists of the FAA "ROSDORNIA" presented to the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis methodological recommendations for the development of transport planning documents of the Murmansk region and the Murmansk urban agglomeration. The recommendations were compiled by the Institute on the basis of transport and sociological surveys. The presentation was conducted by the Acting Deputy Director General of the FAA "ROSDORNII" Ekaterina Bryazgina.

Last summer, the FAA "ROSDORNII" conducted a large-scale study of the roadway in the Murmansk region with the help of the mobile laboratory "Eskandor". The region became the first of the subjects of the Federation where this unique diagnostic complex was used. About 1000 km of roads were surveyed, and their digital model was created. Preparation of documents on the development of the transport system of the Murmansk region – continuation of the Institute's cooperation with the region.

A sociological survey conducted by the FAA "ROSDORNIA" showed an assessment of the level of satisfaction with the work of public transport in the Murmansk region at 6.7 points out of 10 possible – similar results are observed in many other regions of the European part of Russia.

The main activities in the region included the overhaul and reconstruction of more than 1,200 km of federal and regional highways, modernization of the Murmansk transport hub, reconstruction of the Murmansk and Khibiny airports.

According to the Murmansk urban agglomeration, the main tasks are identified – increasing the transport accessibility of the port and the territory of the New Murmansk project and the arrangement of the street and road network in the planned new microdistrict on the site of the Hospital Campus.

In Murmansk, it is recommended to cancel a number of duplicate public transport routes of small capacity, ensuring the needs for transportation on them by trunk transport.

In addition, the experts of the FAA "ROSDORNIA", based on the study of public opinion, propose to revive the maritime communication Marine station – Abram-Cape. With four boat trips on weekdays, the projected passenger traffic will be up to 35 thousand people per year.

The last proposal aroused the special interest of the governor. Andrey Chibis noted that he considers the deadline for its implementation – 2030 – too remote.

"It's not just a question of those people who go to work from there. There is a beautiful view from Abram Cape. There is a park there that needs to be put in order, a viewing platform will be built. In this sense, Abram Cape is also a bright tourist destination. The economic effect will be comprehensive," the head of the region stressed, instructing to recalculate the timing of the implementation of the project.

In addition, Andrey Chibis pointed out the need to create a model for changing traffic in the center of Murmansk with the proposed closure of the section of Vorovsky Street from Lenin Avenue to Komintern Street. The reconstruction plan of the Five Corners square will primarily depend on the results of such calculations.

Taking into account these and other comments of the governor, the draft transport planning documents will be finalized by the FAA "ROSDORNIA" together with the regional Ministry of Transport.
