Construction of the Baku-Shamakhi-Muganli-Ismayilli-Gabala road section continues
Trend Az, 06.04.2022
Within the framework of the reconstruction project of the Muganli-Ismayilli-Gabala section of the Baku-Shamakhi-Muganli-Ismayilli-Gabala highway, which is the shortest road connecting the capital with Ismayilli, Gabala, Oguz, Sheki, Gakh, Zagatala and Balakan districts, construction works are continuing on the first 14-kilometer section.
This particular section of the road, which is subject to landslides, is considered the most difficult from a geological and hydrogeological point of view. For the durability and strength of the road, prevention of landslides on four sections, retaining walls with a total length of 2.6 kilometers, drainage systems and other engineering works are being built here. The structures are built taking into account the seismicity of 9 points.
Due to the new bridge and tunnel, the road on the section to Agsuchay will be reduced by 1.1 kilometers, and on the section after Agsuchay - by 1.4 kilometers.
Currently, earthworks and roadway construction are underway on the first seven kilometers. Engineering structures, round and rectangular drains with a total length of more than 180 meters are also being built.
Work is also underway on the territory to strengthen the slopes to protect against erosion. On 1-3 km of the road, work is being carried out to strengthen piles and install concrete crossbars.
A large suspension bridge with a length of 1135 meters and a height of 76.5 m is being built on 4-5 km of the projected road at the intersection with the river valley . The bridge supports are currently under construction.
It is envisaged that after the bridge over Agsuchai, the road will pass through a mountain tunnel with a length of 865 meters. Drilling of the entrance and exit portals of the tunnel, as well as work on fixing piles, are being completed at the specified site.
In addition, the project continues the construction of a drainage system with a total length of more than 4 km and ditches are being created. It should be noted that the reconstruction of this road leading to important tourist regions of the republic and laid in the 70s of the last century on the initiative of great leader Heydar Aliyev was designed in accordance with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev.
As a result of the reconstruction, the Muganli-Ismayilli-Gabala road will be reduced by 9.7 km and will be 76.8 km. The existing 2-lane road will be widened and will consist of 4 lanes.
The main objectives of the project include:
- improving traffic intensity and road load capacity;
- reduction in the number of road accidents, travel time and transport costs;
- accelerating economic growth and stimulating the development of trade relations with neighboring countries;
- ensuring road safety for drivers and the local population;
- expanding the potential of the region, the territories through which the highway runs;
- tourism development in the region.

The Georgian authorities told about the construction of a road and tunnel leading to Russia
Sova News, 07.04.2022
The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia reported on the progress of work on a new road leading to Russia. According to the ministry, the construction of a 23-kilometer highway and tunnels on the Kvesheti-Kobi section of the Georgian Military Road is actively continuing. Including the longest 9-kilometer tunnel with a diameter of 15 meters.
The length of the existing road is 34 km. The new one, 23 km long, will reduce the distance to the Russian border by about 11 km and travel time by 1 hour. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, thanks to the project, transit traffic will no longer be carried out through the Gudauri resort.
According to Levan Kupatashvili, Deputy head of the Department of Highways of Georgia, the main bypass tunnel through the Cross Pass has already been dug for 1,240 meters, and the auxiliary evacuation tunnel for 2,840 meters. Drilling operations allow you to advance about 12-14 meters per day. In parallel, the construction of an access road to the tunnel is underway in intensive mode. And as soon as weather conditions allow, active work will begin on the construction of bridges, Kupatashvili added.
The high-altitude section of the Georgian Military Road is prone to avalanches in winter, so it is often closed to traffic. It is planned to build five tunnels and five bridges on the new site.
The work is being carried out by the Chinese company China Railway 23rd Bureau Group Co using the TBM mining and Drilling machine (Tunnel Boring Machine). It was produced for this project. The construction of the new section of the road is planned to be completed by 2024.

Uzbekistan's roads will become cement-concrete
Sputnik News, 10.04.2022
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved a new direction for the construction of roads in the country. The Head of State noted that the Initiative Budget portal received 20,000 proposals from citizens to improve the condition of roads — this is 25% of the total number of appeals.
A new experiment to improve the quality of internal roads has also been launched in the Andijan region. Cement—producing enterprises organized a cluster and covered 23 kilometers of roads in 30 remote communities with a cement-concrete mixture, taking over their maintenance for 10 years.
The experiment eventually saved 600 million soums during construction and 350 thousand dollars on the import of bitumen.
The authorities have set themselves the task of building 2.3 thousand kilometers of cement—concrete roads of internal communication in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and in the regions.
