Construction of a road tunnel in the south of Armenia
Armenia Sputnik, 03.02.2022
At the first, prequalification stage, applications from interested construction companies are accepted, after which those who meet the technical criteria are selected. For a project of this scale, the bar is set high: it is necessary to have a significant financial turnover and drilling (for tunneling) equipment of proper quality.
This section of the road will help to speed up the movement from the Iranian border into Armenia much faster (it will reduce the travel time by about an hour and increase the speed of traffic on the section between Qajaran and Sisian).
As previously stated by government representatives, the developer should be selected by the end of 2022, then construction will begin.
Earlier, Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan called the estimated cost of construction at about $ 1 billion, given that several tunnels through the mountains need to be built on this site.
