ROSDORNIA specialists are studying passenger traffic on the routes of urban transport in the capital of Karelia.

The Russian Road Research Institute became the winner of the Petrozavodsk City Hall competition for the development of a "Comprehensive scheme for organizing transport services for the population of Petrozavodsk". The contract value is 26 million rubles.

The contract is implemented in three stages. The first one will last four months, during which specialists will develop a scheme for organizing transport services. Then the experts will prepare proposals for making changes to the Program of integrated development of the city's transport infrastructure.

Following the results of the third stage, which will be completed in eight months, experts will present the developed organizational and financial model of public passenger transport.

Yulia Mizinkova, Chairman of the Housing and Communal Services Committee of the Petrozavodsk City Hall, said that a survey of the route network had been conducted and passenger traffic counting had begun.

"Research is carried out on trolleybus and bus routes, as well as on intermunicipal and suburban routes, that is the transport that carries passengers within the city is also being investigated. The research will take longer than previously expected due to quarantines and restrictions," Yulia Mizinkova said.

Alexey Ivanov, Deputy Head of the Department of Regional transport Planning projects of the FAA ROSDORNIA, said that in accordance with the contract, specialists have already started work on creating a "Comprehensive scheme for organizing transport services for the population of Petrozavodsk."

"Surveys are conducted using modern software. Passengers are counted both in public transport salons and on the street – at control points that are defined to check passenger traffic, the number of vehicles on the route, and traffic intervals. The results will be analyzed and will become the basis for preparing a proposal for the city administration to optimize the route network," Alexey Ivanov said.

ROSDORNII is an institution subordinate to the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, which is engaged in the development and scientific support of federal, targeted and regional programs aimed at innovative development and improvement of the condition of highways. This gives hope that the work will be completed on time and efficiently — the contractor has extensive experience in such projects and sufficient scientific basis for the execution of the contract.
