On February 3 and 4, Irkutsk hosted the already traditional international practical conference "Siberian Roads". The vast majority of industry conferences on road construction are held in spring and autumn. "Siberian Roads" occupied the so-called "prime time": the end of winter, when the autumn wave of road conferences has already passed, and the spring one has not yet begun. Naturally, those who are interested in road topics, having missed personal communication, were happy to buy tickets to Irkutsk. Our road columnist Stanislav DONIN also went on a landmark business trip. His detailed account of the conference is below.
How to design the perfect asphalt concrete
Irkutsk met us with comfortable weather and snow-covered Siberian roads. On February 3, I went along the usual route - the conference was again held at the Irkutsk Expocenter. A small exhibition of road equipment was launched in front of the exhibition complex. Here, as part of the "battle", excavator operators demonstrated a filigree mastery of the technique, pouring a drink from a bottle attached to the bucket. Participants and journalists with we took pictures of the action with pleasure.
430 delegates from different Russian regions and neighboring countries have registered for the main Siberian road event this year. I will try to tell you about the reports that attracted the most attention of those present.
From the very first minutes it became clear that the word "benefit" was put at the forefront of the conference. It was a gratifying fact that the speeches touched on both federal and local issues. The nuances of the work of road workers in the conditions of Siberia and the Far East aroused, of course, the maximum interest of the delegates who came from afar. After all, this information is simply not found in the central part of the Russian Federation.
So, Alexey Alekseev, head of the quality control department of the Southern Baikal FCU, told the audience about how contractors working on the road network subordinated to this FCU selected optimal adhesive additives for themselves. According to the expert, initially all contracting companies in the region used one adhesive additive. But after the experiment, it turned out that there are no universal additives. In depending on the properties of the stone material with which you have to work, it is necessary to select a special additive, especially for its features. Then it will be possible to get the maximum economic effect and durability of the road network. It is also very important to remember that the adhesive additive lowers the sealing temperature by 20 degrees - this is a very significant indicator for a short working season in Siberia.
Adhesive additives alone cannot build a good road. Specialist of the Department of Artificial Structures of the same department Sofia Kalishevskaya introduced the audience to the experience of applying sprayed waterproofing on bridges in the Republic of Buryatia - the types of waterproofing used in the region, the pros and cons of each of them. The expert highlighted the waterproofing of the brand "Rabberflex-55", using which the contractor significantly reduces the construction time and has a number of other qualitative advantages.

The next component that seriously affects the quality and durability of highways should be considered PBB - polymer-bitumen binders. About how to make high-quality PBB, said the technical director of the company "Synergy oil Group" Roman Zhitov. In his speech, he noted that for Siberia and the Far East, it is most important to use modified binders with a large number of different classifiers and a wider range of operating temperatures. And in order to produce such binders, in addition to deep quality control, it is necessary to use appropriate equipment. In addition, use the services of a stable and reliable supplier of raw materials.
The next speaker worthy of attention was Alexander Dedyukhin, director of the testing center of the LADOR Research Institute. He shared the practice of designing asphalt concrete mixtures according to GOST R 58401 and GOST R 58406. In his half-hour speech, the specialist told a lot of interesting things: for example, he identified four conditions necessary to obtain a high-quality asphalt concrete mixture:
-
Wear-resistant crushed stone with a stable grain composition of the main fractions
-
Screening with a stable size modulus or with the possibility of separation into fractions of 0-2 and 2-4 mm
- align="left"> High-quality bitumen suitable for producing mixtures with low plastic deformation
-
Modern and stable asphalt plant with 5 or more hot storage bins
Prices for materials for road construction have increased, on average, by 60%
Of course, the conference participants could not but touch upon the problem of a sharp increase in prices for almost the entire range of building materials. About this problem, on the example of the cost of materials for road markings, told the head of production of LLC "White Line" Philip Konov. In particular, he noted:
- Raw material prices depend on the state of affairs on the international stock exchange. The manufacturer will not sell for rubles cheaper than it can ship for foreign currency to Europe and China. Accordingly, some solvents have increased in price by 2 or even 3 times. Acetone has become very expensive, since a lot of its intermediates go to the production of antiseptics. For the same reason, glycerin has risen in price. If raw materials become more expensive, then products become more expensive.
Next, the expert "walked" through the dynamics of the cost of a number of different goods. She, to put it mildly, it is not joyful - the increase in price, on average, is 60%.
But, according to the speaker, there is a way out of this situation:
- The price increase can be shifted to the customer, but 60% of the increase in the cost of materials will not be shifted just like that. We need to balance somehow. Some types of raw materials, unfortunately, have become unavailable at all. The factories say: "Sorry, China has bought everything from us for the next 10 months. And at this time we can't ship anything to you. Get in line: you will order in January - we will ship in November."
It is clear that not everyone can cover the sixty percent rise in price. To get out of the situation, it is necessary to change something in the composition of the materials used - to balance, replace with analogues, etc. The main thing here is to achieve a balance of properties and cost. To do this, you need to buy expensive and good materials and already try to spend them somehow more economically. You can, for example, increase wear resistance, pick up more polymers. Pay attention to materials with greater hiding power, better adhesive properties. The price per kilogram when buying such materials, of course, will increase, but in operation, in warranty obligations will still benefit.
The better the bitumen binder, the smaller the track.
As you know, it is important not only to build a road, but also to keep it in a normative state. There are many different road defects: temperature cracks, breaks, potholes, subsidence, rutting, etc. track resistance is one of the most important consumer indicators of the quality of asphalt concrete coatings.

It is by the presence of the track that ordinary users evaluate the quality of the road. Anatoly Novikov, Head of the Technology and Quality Control Department of LLC "RN-Bitumen", devoted his speech to this issue. He noted that according to the results of the work of European researchers, the level of "contribution" of bitumen binder to the formation of a track can be up to 40%. Thus, the bitumen binder can play an important role in the track stability of asphalt concrete, and the presence of a clear relationship between the parameters of the bitumen binder and the depth of the track will allow the roadworker to predict the future track stability of the projected asphalt concrete. Such an assessment of the contribution of bitumen binder to the track stability of asphalt concrete was described by the example of an experiment conducted in the walls of the company "RN-Bitumen".
Safety first
Recently, a lot of attention has been paid to road safety. This applies not only to traffic safety, but also to ensuring safety at work that takes place without completely blocking traffic. Ivan Nemov, Technical Director of the Prodmash plant, devoted his speech to this issue. He proposed a methodology according to which the so-called cover car, to which a trailer is attached in the form of a softening mat, follows the workers or the official transport of a contracting company on the road.
If a car drives into such a mat, then no one will get hurt - it will only soften the blow. This new solution could not fail to arouse the interest of listeners. Since, unfortunately, there are drivers who do not pay much attention to temporary road signs, do not slow down - and working on the roadway because of them is very dangerous.
Of course, for high-quality construction it is necessary not only to use building materials that are optimally suitable for each individual area, but also professional control of the work. Vladimir Martinson, Chief Adviser to the General Director of the FAA ROSDORNIA, told about its regulatory component and other subtleties. He once again reminded that with improper work, even with the highest quality materials, it will not be possible to avoid marriage.
And the last report worth mentioning was the speech of a bright expert of the road industry Olga Vorobyova. In her speech, she raised the topic of the transition of the entire industry to new methods of selecting asphalt concrete mixtures, explained the difficulties associated with this.
In general, the event was held in a businesslike and at the same time friendly atmosphere. Discussions and even heated debates on it were only welcome. The participants were able to study a number of subtle points on various aspects of road business, exchange experiences.
We can say that the conference "Siberian Roads" has its own clear and characteristic track.
