In 2020, a large-scale equipment upgrade is taking place in the stationary laboratories of the FAA ROSDORNIA within the framework of the national project "Safe and High-quality Roads". The new equipment will be used in the framework of quality monitoring (audit) for testing road construction materials for compliance with the requirements of existing regulatory and technical documents. We tell you about the installations and devices in detail.

The quality of bitumen binders in the asphalt concrete mixture largely determines the quality of the asphalt concrete coating itself. One of the indicators that is calculated when testing a bitumen binder in accordance with existing standards is ductility or extensibility.

The automatic device for determining the ductility and tensile strength of bitumen is designed to test bitumen samples for extensibility (ductility), elasticity, strain energy in accordance with GOST 33138-2014 "Public roads. Bitumen oil road viscous. Method for determining extensibility". The considered method consists in stretching a bitumen sample placed in a liquid coolant medium at a constant speed.

A sample of bitumen binder, cast in the form of an "eight", is stretched at a given temperature and stretching speed.
At the moment when the elongated bitumen thread breaks, the amount of stretching is fixed, which is an indicator of the extensibility of bitumen. To determine the strain energy, the tensile force is recorded during the test.

The ductilometer consists of a housing in the form of a stainless steel bath with a horizontally movable carriage for placing z-x samples. The carriage is supported by guides and is driven by a stepper motor. The built-in microprocessor control unit has the ability to transfer data to a PC.
