Specialists of the Russian Road Research Institute took samples of new asphalt concrete pavement from the roads of the Samara region
Samples (cores) were taken by experts from four objects of the Samara region, road works on which are provided within the framework of the national project "Safe and high-quality highways". Selective quality control of road works at such facilities throughout the country is carried out by the FAA "ROSDORNII" (an institution subordinate to the Ministry of Transport of Russia) as an Industry-wide competence center of the road industry. The new Orenburg branch of the Institute made its first trip to the Samara region last week, previously the Volgograd branch carried out monitoring.
For the three objects that the Orenburg branch of ROSDORNIA checks, the customer is the Ministry of Transport and Highways of the Samara region.
Major repairs are underway on the Sosnovka-Novoe Mansurkino road. The contractor on a site of 8 and a half kilometers is Avtotranservice LLC. By the time of the auditors' visit, work had already been carried out on the restoration and replacement of culverts, and the installation of catchment the work on the replacement of the pavement is almost completed – a separation layer of non-woven geotextile is laid between the sand layer and the crushed stone base, which will allow the load to be distributed on the road, the layers of the pavement will not "fall" into each other. As for the coating itself, the lower layer was made by 80%, the upper by 30%. Sampling using a core collector was carried out from the lower and upper layers of the coating for subsequent quality assessment in the testing laboratory.
The experts also inspected the asphalt concrete plant, the contractor's laboratory, checked how the materials are stored.

"Sergievsk Village Bypass" is another object of the contractor Avtotranservice LLC. Here, repairs are carried out on a site of 12 and a half kilometers, new and the best technologies are used in the construction of asphalt concrete pavement. The leveling and upper layers are designed and arranged according to the method of volumetric design of asphalt concrete mixtures – such a coating has a durable crushed stone frame, the technology, with its competent application, significantly prolongs the service life of the road. On Core sampling of both coating layers was also carried out at this facility.

Sections of the Tolyatti-Tashelka road (Stavropol district of the Samara region) with a total length of 10 kilometers are being repaired by JSC Baltic Construction Company – Spb. Further maintenance of the facilities by the named company is envisaged – based on the principles of life cycle contracts. The share of such contracts in the region is another target indicator specified in the passport of the national project along with the indicator for the use of new and best technologies. By the way, new technologies are also used at the facility near Tolyatti – the leveling and lower (already laid) layers of asphalt concrete pavement are designed using the volumetric design method. The top layer will be made of SHCHMA-16 (crushed-mastic asphalt concrete), now the contractor is setting up an asphalt plant to produce such a mixture. Experts examined the TEREX mobile asphalt concrete plant with a capacity of 100 tons/hour, the laboratories of the contractor and the customer carried out the selection of cores from the lower layer of the road surface.

The next object of selective quality monitoring is already located directly in Togliatti. The customer of the road works is the Administration of the Togliatti City District, the contractor is Avtodorengineering LLC. This is Chukovsky Street, the section from Zhilin Street to Karl Marx Street is being repaired. By the time the auditors arrived, the device of the leveling coating layer was completed, temporary markings were applied. The top layer will be arranged from a crushed stone-mastic mixture of SHCHMA-20 on a polymer-bitumen binder (technology from the list of new and best). Employees of ROSDORNIA inspected the KA-160 asphalt mixing plant with a capacity of 160 tons/hour, the materials storage site, the contractor's laboratory, checked the executive documentation, and took samples from the leveling coating layer.
It should be added that selective monitoring of the quality of road works is carried out at all their stages. The team of the Volgograd branch, which had previously checked the facilities as part of the first stage of the audit, did not identify significant comments. It is planned that the results of the departure of the Orenburg branch will be known within two weeks.
Conducting quality checks of road works, the Russian Road Research Institute acts as an external expert. The purpose of monitoring is to bring information about the quality, first of all, to the participants of road activities, so that, if necessary, the customer and contractor can timely adjust the work both at the monitoring facility and at other similar facilities.
