Cooperation between South Korea and the Republic of Belarus in the field of "smart cities"

Infopolicy, 25.08.2021

On August 25, 2021, the Belarusian Investment Agency and the South Korean KIND Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of a Smart City.

The signing ceremony was attended by officials of the Ministry of Transport, Information and Communications of Belarus and the Ministry of Economy, as well as KIND CEO Lim Han-kyu.

This meeting is a continuation of the K-City Network global cooperation program, under which KIND held an international public offering of shares in April. This program is designed to support advanced smart city technologies in Korea by developing plans and conducting feasibility studies in foreign cities, those in need of development. It is also a strategy to help Korean companies advance in urban development projects abroad based on this.

Then Belarus requested the creation of an innovative development district within the framework of the creation of a smart city. This is a new project for the development of the city by creating infrastructure, such as transport and education, for regional development.

Kyrgyzstan

A new shift in the North — South alternative Highway project

Live, 24.08.2021

The joint efforts of the builders of China and Kyrgyzstan have achieved an intermediate victory in the construction of the north—south highway. The general contractor China Road and Bridge (CRBC) has fully completed the installation of box girders of two giant trestle bridges across the Naryn River, which serves as a guarantee for the successful completion and opening of the north—south road." This is a new shift in the project of an alternative north—south highway.

According to the company's representative, two giant trestle bridges over the Naryn River are key components of the alternative north—south road. The length of the bridges is 1076 meters and 396 meters, respectively, a total of 114 pile foundations and 212 box beams. The longest bridge pile is 37.5 meters, the largest bridge pier is 38 meters. The maximum height of the construction of trestle bridges reaches 40 meters. The weight of the largest box beam is 150 tons. The bridge flooring is designed with roadways in both directions made of asphalt concrete pavement. The width of the bridge deck is 40 meters, the net width of the roadway is 11.5 meters. Two sidewalks with a width of 0.75 meters are provided along the edges of the bridge. Chinese design standards were applied for the first time in the construction of these two overpass bridges, which became a significant breakthrough in the history of road construction in Kyrgyzstan.

The alternative north—south highway begins in the north of Balykchi, passes through such important centers as Kochkor, Aral and Ural, stretches south to the city of Jalal-Abad. The total length of the route is about 433 kilometers. After the construction is completed, the north—south highway will become a transport corridor between the northern and southern parts of the country, as well as between its roadside areas. The old highway between north and south (Bishkek— Osh highway) runs along in mountainous areas, congestion often occurs on it, and due to weather conditions, especially in winter, it has to be closed altogether.

This is the largest infrastructure project in the history of Kyrgyzstan. For the first time in the history of Kyrgyzstan, trestle bridges, a 3890-meter tunnel are being built, and for the first time a coating of crushed-mastic asphalt is being used instead of ordinary asphalt concrete, the production and use of high-strength concrete has been established.

The construction of the north—south highway, as noted in the company, will not only improve the situation with traffic and transportation, but will also bring huge practical benefits and potential benefits to Kyrgyzstan.

Firstly, Kyrgyzstan will receive a new powerful transport artery, which will significantly affect the economic growth and development of related economic sectors of all roadside areas.

Secondly, Kyrgyzstan is gaining enormous experience in the construction of large-scale projects in difficult natural conditions, adopting methods and technologies in the construction of highways and bridges in the highlands, in harsh climatic conditions. During the implementation of the Kyrgyz Republic project the valuable experience and advanced technology of the contractor were transferred to the party.

Thirdly, during the implementation of this project, Chinese engineering personnel were effectively used, who trained a large number of specialists from Kyrgyzstan who had received real practical training at the facilities. Their knowledge and experience will contribute to the implementation of more complex infrastructure projects in Kyrgyzstan in the future during the construction of new roads and railways.

The alternative north—south road will also connect Kyrgyzstan with important centers of economic growth in Asia and Europe and increase the flow of freight and passenger traffic.
