It is planned to reconstruct 500 km of roads of national significance in Belarus in 5 years
Belta.by, 16.09.2021
In Belarus, it is planned to reconstruct at least 500 km of roads of national significance in 5 years. This was announced to journalists by the head of the Department for the Development of Highways of the Main Directorate of Highways of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Sergey Leonchik at a press conference in BelTA.
"The Presidential Decree approved the Program of socio-economic development of Belarus for 2021-2025. This program contains the main parameters for us, as road workers, that we must ensure and fulfill in order to ensure the normal pace of development of highways. The document stipulates that we must reconstruct at least 500 km of roads of national significance in five years and carry out current and major repairs, and somewhere, maybe even reconstruct 7 thousand km of local roads. According to our calculations, this would be a very significant contribution to maintaining the republican and local road network in proper condition. However, for this, of course, I would like to have sufficient financial resources allocated, then I think we will cope with this task, as it has always happened," said the head of the department.
According to him, along with the Program of socio-economic development, the program "Roads of Belarus" for 2021-2025 was approved earlier this year. "This program reflects in more detail and broadly the main directions in which the road industry will develop. There is also the development of scientific and technical potential, the renewal of the fleet of road equipment, the expansion of the toll road network, as well as great importance is paid to the condition of bridge structures in the republic. We expect that all the activities included in this program, all projects will be properly funded, and therefore implemented," Sergei Leonchik added.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Transport, the plans for a five-year period include the reconstruction of such a large facility as the M3 Minsk - Vitebsk highway on the Minsk - Pleshchenitsy section. "The Eurasian Development Bank expresses interest in financing this project. Currently, active negotiations are underway with him on structuring and preparing this project. We have already entered the active phase of negotiations in order to finance the necessary work at the expense of this bank. In addition, we are now launching an initiative so that, in addition to the M3 road, we can carry out the reconstruction of bridge structures with this bank. We plan to include more than 20 bridges in this project in order to close the issues on those structures that, in our opinion, require priority repairs," he said.
Project documentation has also been prepared for the implementation of the project for the reconstruction of the R46 road on the Lepel - Polotsk section. "We want to use the Export-Import Bank of China there. We have always had good and warm friendly relations with China, besides, one project has already been implemented with them on the reconstruction of the highway, we see a significant potential for cooperation with Chinese partners on the reconstruction of highways," the head of the department added.
As for the current year, according to the expert, by the end of this year it is planned to put into operation the section of the road P53 to the satellite city of Minsk - Smolevichi - according to the parameters of category I-b (four lanes), P23 on the section Soligorsk - Slutsk and the section P16 Tyukhinichi - Vysokoe - the border of the Republic Poland (Peschatka). Work has begun on the south-western bypass of Mogilev, and plans for the five-year plan include the construction of detours of the World and Vitebsk.
