At the end of 2022 - the beginning of 2023, it is planned to complete the construction of a highway of international importance Baku-Guba-the state border of the Russian Federation, the State Agency "Highways of Azerbaijan" reported.

The construction of the road, which is part of the international North-South transport corridor, started in 2018. On the first section, with a length of 30 kilometers, the laying of the roadway has already been completed. Currently, construction work is continuing on the section from the 30th to the 90th kilometer. At the same time, the road from the 90th to the 150th kilometer of the highway is practically paved.

After the road is put into operation, the distance from Baku to the border with Russia will be reduced from 208 to 192 kilometers. In this regard, the Agency faces the task of completing the construction of a highway with a length of 150 kilometers.

The cost of the project is estimated at 1.2 billion manats.

39 interchanges and overpasses, 15 hydraulic and canal bridges, 41 inter-village underpasses, 514 ring concrete water lines of different diameters, 43 water channels, 20 road crossings and other communications will be installed and moved along the entire route.

The construction of a new highway will not only improve transport services, but also give impetus to the development of tourism in the region, create conditions for increasing incomes, developing the country's transport infrastructure, creating new jobs and solving many social problems.

The trip on the motorway will be paid. For this purpose, seven turnstiles will be installed along the entire route to pay for travel. The cost of the trip from Baku to the border has not yet been determined.

In parallel, the Agency is restoring the former Baku-Guba highway. To date, the roadbed in the direction of the village of Gadzhi Zeynalabdin Tagiyev is being repaired in Sumgayit.

In the next stages, the entire alternative road to the border with the Russian Federation will be gradually restored, the department promises. At the same time, it is not specified how soon it will be possible to comfortably get to Guba and back.
