Road services work almost seven days a week
The newspaper "Transport Bulletin", 27.04.2022
In the Vitebsk region, the problem of critical dimpling was especially evident in Polotsk and the surrounding areas.
According to Viktor Zubarevich, the head of the DEU No. 32 RUE "Vitsebskavtodor", who has been working in the road industry since 1994, there was no such dimple as after last winter. Suffice it to say that along the P46 section of km 72 – km 131, a pit repair was carried out in March with a total area of about 4,200 sq. m. And work on this and other roads continues.
"With constant temperature changes, the roadbed is destroyed especially strongly. In addition, the "fatigue" of asphalt," explains Viktor Zubarevich. "This winter, the air temperature used to rise and fall through the zero mark three times a day. The water trapped in the cracks freezes with a decrease in temperature to minus and destroys the coating. In addition, in order to avoid slipperiness and possible accidents, the roads were constantly treated with a sand-and-salt mixture. And, most importantly, the inter-repair service life is not maintained, and many of the roads were not originally designed for modern loads.
They hope to provide comfortable travel on the roads entrusted to them by the summer season. In the future, it is planned to install a thin–layer coating on sections with a length of 2.27 km on P20, 3.85 km on P132 and 1.3 km on P14.

The President of Kazakhstan criticizes the roads of the West Kazakhstan region
Tengrinews, 04/27/2022
Last week, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke sharply about the roads of the West Kazakhstan region (WKO), whose problems have not been solved for years.
The criticism of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan concerned two major highways in the southern part of the West Kazakhstan region: Kaztalovka - Zhanibek - the border of Russia and Onega - Beisen - Saykhin roads. Back in 2019, Tokayev instructed to start repairing these roads. At the same time, the cost of the projects was calculated, which was estimated at 57 billion tenge. This amount included the overhaul of 248 kilometers of roads. To implement the project, it was divided into five sections.
"In general, the problems in the field of road construction, not only in the West Kazakhstan region, but also in the whole country, are related to financing measures. Because at the start of projects there is no clear plan for allocating funds. Specifically, the repair of these routes was a combination of several problems that slowed down the project for several years," said the head of KazAvtoZhol Kasymbayev.
According to him, in 2019-2020, heavy rains were observed in the West Kazakhstan region. They were several times higher than the annual rate. Therefore, road workers could not start the construction of the highway.
Despite the problems, 55 kilometers of roads have already been repaired last year. This year it is planned to put into operation another 119 kilometers.
In addition to these highways, a section of the so-called Aksai highway, which starts from the village of Podstepnoye and stretches through the village of Fedorovka to the border of Russia, was criticized in the West Kazakhstan region.
The length of this highway is 144 kilometers. It is divided into four sections - 36 kilometers each. At the moment, a competition has been announced to find contractors for two segments - the first and the fourth. The rest of the highway will be transferred to the balance of the local municipality.
Note that earlier the cost of reconstruction of the first section was estimated at 20.5 billion tenge, and the fourth - at 14.7 billion. However, at the moment the project has risen in price by 24 and 17 billion tenge, respectively.

Inspection of the quality of bitumen used in the construction, repair of highways
KAZDORNII, 03.05.2022
In accordance with the task of the Committee of Highways of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as part of the research on improving the design of non-rigid road coverings, a quality survey of bitumen used in the road industry of the Republic is being conducted.
The purpose of the work is to provide the construction, reconstruction and repair of highways with high-quality bitumen, as well as timely prevention of the release and use of low-quality bitumen in the framework of projects for the construction of highways of republican significance.
Tests are carried out in accordance with the requirements of ST RK 1373-2013 "Bitumen and bitumen binders. Bitumen oil road viscous. Technical conditions".
Bitumen plants have not yet fully started production after maintenance work for the winter period, therefore, bitumen produced at the end of the previous year and not at all plants was tested during the reporting period.
8 bitumen samples from 2 manufacturers (LLP "PNKHZ" and LLP "Kazakhbitum") were tested in the laboratories of KazdorNIA. Bitumen tests were carried out in accordance with the requirements of manufacturing plants. Bitumen from all plants met the stated requirements of regulatory documents.
The practical purpose of the work is to provide construction, reconstruction and repair of highways with high-quality bitumen (corresponding to the requirements of ST RK 1373-2013 "Bitumen and bitumen binders. Bitumen oil road viscous. Technical conditions").
The scientific goal is to improve the requirements for road viscous bitumen to improve the quality of asphalt concrete. To achieve a practical goal, bitumen samples were taken from manufacturing plants and construction, reconstruction and repair of highways.
The results of bitumen quality monitoring will be used to establish the scope of application of various bitumen grades in different road and climatic zones of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
