  • Abstract: Staking road curves with the conjugation of transition curves and circular inserts is usually carried out from several points – from the vertex of the angle, the beginning and end of the rounding and other points. However, for large values of the radius and turning angle it is a very time-consuming process. When designing the road routes, among the range of several methods, the most widely used one is the «unambiguous axis determination» method, based on the principles of tangential axis design. According to the regulatory documents, requirements are imposed for ensuring the safe and convenient movement of the vehicle. In almost all countries of the world, clothoid segments with different parameters in combination with circular inserts are used as the transition curves. However, the possibility of searching and developing new methods has not been exhausted. The article proposes a new method for staking the curves of the route plan by biclothoids with a circular insert from one point – from its middle in order to significantly increase the accuracy and reduce the time consumption for staking out.
  • Keywords: Road, clothoid tracing, clothoid transition curves, circular insert, staking of clothoids and circular insert, vertex of the turning angle, system of polar coordinates.

  • Abstract: The destruction of roads as well as the decrease in their service life is usually caused by traffic of heavy vehicles, the axial loads of which have an increased destructive effect on the road structure, resulting in significant damage, particularly during periods of reduced strength. As known, during the spring period soil moisture increases significantly, consequently the reduction of the subgrade bearing capacity is occurred. In order to prevent premature destruction of road structures, there is a practice of introducing temporary restrictions that entails reducing permissible values of vehicle axial loads. In view of this, the determination of the spring thaw period to high precision is important. This article analyzes the measurement results of the road structure water-thermal regime and structures strength. Thus, the validity of using coefficients based on the summation of average daily air temperatures as a generally available indicator of the dynamics of climatic conditions has been confirmed. Based on the above analysis, the procedure for determining the boundaries of the spring thawing period of subgrade is proposed.

  • Abstract: The article deals with the problem concerning bridge structures failures. The state of the problem is briefly analyzed according to domestic and foreign literature sources and it is noted that insufficient attention is paid to the failure rate of bridge structures. Then, the analysis of a bridge structure with a steel-reinforced concrete span in the Republic of Dagestan in the process of its construction due to the negligence of the construction staging is given. In the process of computational analysis, it has been found that the main cause of the overpass span failure is the discrepancy between the technology of concrete laying and the stability of the designed bridge steel structures elements. It is specified that the received results of the computational analysis are in full compliance with the picture of destruction defined during the inspection of the bridge structure after the accident.

  • Abstract: This article examines the calculation sequence and provides implementation examples for a retaining quickly erectable structure design having increased dynamic load resistance, as well as aesthetic appeal at comparatively low cost. The retaining structure represents a stepped semi-gravity type construction in which the joint work of ground-filled blocks is provided by friction forces due to compacted ground infill inside each one of the blocks and the formation of a compacted foundation of the structure which prevents ground failure. The considered structure possesses a range of advantages including rapid mounting (as well as the possibility of dismounting while maintaining the integrity of basic elements), lack of «wet» processes during construction, structural flexibility and comparatively high dynamic load resistance. The solving the problem of creating a computational modeling method for retaining structures with a complex-shaped pressure face consisting of blocks without rigid constructive connection and filled with granular material will allow to provide a sufficient computational substantiation for the use of considered structure in transport construction facilities, as well as a part of bridge abutments and road embankment reinforcement.

  • Abstract: The article deals with the research of the possibility of using the «UNDERBOLD» stabilizer for clay soils of the Vologda region. The effect of the stabilizer on maintaining compressive strength of reinforced soils is shown, which depends on the content of clay particles (type of soil) and can reach 30 % provided that the manufacturer’s recommended technology is applied. The use of the «UNDERBOLD» stabilizer according to the technology proposed by authors (treatment with stabilizer – drying – strengthening with cement) provides an increase in the strength of the strengthened soil after water saturation up to 2 or more times compared to samples without stabilizer. It is shown that when designing a pavement using local clay soils strengthened with the «UNDERBOLD» stabilizer, it is necessary to performing a waterproofing layer, as well as the drainage to increase the efficiency of the structural layer. It is noted that this stabilizer is not a reagent that reduces the phenomenon of frost heave.
