  • Abstract: The issues related to the behavior of steel piles in integral abutment of bridges under cyclical temperature effects in soil embankments and EPSblock embankments are considered. It is shown that steel piles of tubular section provide the structure operation without fatigue damage during the service life. The improvement of steel piles in integral abutments is provided by local strengthening at the point of their connection with abutment body. It is also revealed that the use of the EPS-block in the embankment approach allows to reduce the lateral pressure on the piles, as well as decrease the displacements and bending moments in their sections

  • Abstract: The article deals with the results of the research by differential thermal and thermogravimetric analysis methods. The data obtained indicate the considerable proportions of carbon dioxide corrosion of cement stone during the service of concrete structures. It is shown that the process of carbonization of cement stone and concrete is accompanied by shrinkage deformations. The carbonization shrinkage of cement stone is 2.5 mm/m. The introduction of mineral and chemical additives into Portland cement composition results in a significant decrease in the carbonization shrinkage of cement stone to 0.5 mm/m and a reduction in the total shrinkage deformation to 0.65 mm/m. The introduction of complex carbonate-containing additives in the amount of 50-80 kg/m3 instead of part of the sand helps to reduce the shrinkage deformation of concrete: moisture shrinkage is 0.15 mm/m, carbonization shrinkage is 0.32 mm/m.

  • Abstract: At the beginning of the century, new requirements have been raised for perpetual road pavements according to modern concepts of the USA and the EU. The article considers the basic experimental and practical studies of “self-healing road concretes”, which were first developed in Kazakhstan and meet these requirements. The durability of road concretes is justified by the results of physico-chemical studies of the structure of belite cement stone and physico-mechanical tests of various compositions of concretes and core samples from roads. The strength of concrete continues to increase for over 40 years. It is assumed that the way to durable “Roman concretes” has been found.

RELATIONSHIP OF LINEARITY LIMIT STRESS OF ASPHALT CONCRETE WITH LIMIT SHEAR STRESS OF BITUMEN

  • Doctor of Engineering V. A. Zolotarev (Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University)
    Contact information: kafedradsm@gmail.com
  • Abstract: The rheological behavior of asphalt concrete is largely due to the temperature-time characteristics of the bituminous binder behavior. Depending on the loading level, asphalt concrete deforms as linear or non-linear viscoelastic bodies. The transition to nonlinear deformation is evaluated by the limit strains and stresses, above which the directly proportional relationship between them is disturbed. The article shows that linearity limit stresses are much more sensitive to deformation than linearity limite strains.
In accordance with this, to assess the effect of bituminous binders on the transition of asphalt concrete to nonlinear deformation, the limit shear stresses of bitumen, corresponding to their exit to a stationary flow, or their cohesion, are taken. The straight-line relationship between linearity limit stresses of asphalt concrete and limit shear stresses of bituminous binders is shown.
