  • Abstract: A simplified model for selecting priorities for the designation of repair works, which is based on a simplified criterion in the road assets management system, is proposed. Compared with the previously developed economic-mathematical model and other models, such as HDM, PMS, etc., it greatly simplifies the implementation of optimization calculations to develop strategies for road repair works when obtaining objective results with restricted initial information. The model was used in solving the issues of justifying the road repair strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan when developing a road assets management system.

  • Abstract: The paper discusses the results of optimal cement-stabilized soil composition design for use as road base material on road section near Feodosia city. The addition of local crushed shelly limestone in clay soil of also local nature would reduce soil plasticity, and the use of cement helps to construct a reliable road base. The determination of soil parameters, including gradation and plasticity was carried out according to normative methods. A linear relationship between the plasticity indexes and the mass content of clay in the mixture is revealed. Laboratory tests showed that the addition of fractions larger than silt ones to the soil helped to reduce the plasticity of clay in several times. It was found that the compression strength of mixture of clay, limestone and cement in proportions of 4.74:1.2:1 was of the order of 6.7 MPa, which corresponded to the normative requirements for such construction material.

  • Abstract: Three methods of flexible road pavements service life extension when designing are described. Firstly, it is shown how the prediction of the subgrade spring thawing period affects the road pavement service life. It is recommended to introduce thawed and non-thawed parts of the subgrade into the design scheme of road pavements. Secondly, it is shown that ignoring the physical nonlinearity of crushed stone-gravel-sand materials under certain conditions can lead to a service life decrease of road pavements by factor of about 2 times. Thirdly, it is shown that at road sections, where congestions occurring, road pavements should be designed with taking into account the design characteristics of asphalt concrete, determined while the duration of load is more than 0.1 s. When constructing road pavements, the subbase course or base course should be designated from porous, dense, high-density or dispersed-reinforced asphalt concretes.
